TRS-80 Model II from 1981

CPU: Z80A @ 4MHz
RAM: 128KB
Floppy Drive: 8" SS
Hard Drive: 8MB
Model No.: 26-4002
Serial No.: 64061581
OS: TRSDOS 2.0A, LS-DOS 6.3.1a or Pickles and Trout CP/M 2.2mH
Ports: Two serial, printer, floppy, hard disk
Catalog Price: $3899 System, $1750 Disk Bay
Notes: Along with the system unit, I have the 3 drive expansion unit, part number 26-4162. The system also has an after-market amber CRT installed. The keyboard only had 5 working keys on it, as the foam pads had disintegrated on all the others. Based on this article about rebuilding Sol 20 keyboards, I constructed new foam pad and mylar assemblies using a Space Blanket, a strip of 3/16" track foam from the local hobby shop, the original plastic backing discs from the keyboard, Elmer's Rubber Cement and a 7/16" hollow punch. The keys are a little stiffer than the original, but they are 100% functional.

This system has the following boards installed:

  • CPU (8709049 REV C 1979)
  • FDC (8709198 REV PC-P-86V0 1980)
  • HDC (8709200 PC-P-86V-0 1981)
  • 64KB memory (8709053 REV B1 1979)
  • Video/Keyboard Interface (8709048 REV C 1979)
  • 64KB memory (8709053 REV B 1979)
